River and Star

The blue and gold colors both come from the current city flag, while the white strike going through the middle diagonally represents the Chattahoochee river, which is historically crucial to the founding of Atlanta. The star simply represents the state of Georgia and the fact that Atlanta is the capital of Georgia, presenting a commanding stance.
