The diagonal lines are meant to evoke railroad tracks and represent the original railroad crossroads that gave birth to the city. But, they can also represent today’s city as a crossroads of the South and can even be interpreted as jet trails crisscrossing the sky above Hartsfield-Jackson. The over-under appearance where the lines cross represents the many layers that comprise the city. The green color represents Atlanta’s forest and tree cover while the blue represents the flow of commerce (via rail, highway, and air) as well as the Chattahoochee River, one of the city’s most underappreciated assets.
