Peach Blossom

Peach Blossom

By: Nick Julian

Description:

Colors are Blue, Gold, Peach, and Black. The blue and gold are from the original city flag and the peach and black are new additions.
3 bars (yellow-blue-yellow) represent both Georgia’s values of Wisdom, Justice, & Moderation and the main divisions of Atlanta: Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead
The 2 yellow bars represent both Atlanta’s history as a railroad terminus and the prosperity it brought to the city in the early years, and Atlanta’s two counties: DeKalb & Fulton
Peach blossom represents Atlanta. It being a flower symbolizes rebirth, which harkens to the city’s motto “Resurgens”, rising up.
The 5 petals represent a significant moment in Atlanta history: Founding of the City, Reconstruction after Sherman’s March, Great Atlanta Fire, Center of the Civil Rights Movement, and Hosting the Olympic Games.
The Black star in the blossom honors those killed in the Atlanta Race Riots and in the Civil Rights Movement
The yellow circle with the black star make a sun, representing the “Hot-lanta” nickname and a bright future for Atlantans.
